ABOUT THE PROGRAM
It's not basic at all... we just liked the catchy name.
When we first came up with the concept for Barra Basics it was intended to be an entry level course. However, as we began filming and program development, it soon became evident that to really help people catch fish we had to include everything and there could be no half measures.
But we loved the name Barra Basics.
So we included everything Ryan Moody knows about barra fishing (which is considerable), and compiled it into a step-by-step course held together by an easy to follow flowchart. Thus it is not the information contained within Barra Basics that is basic, but rather the learning process required to implement the content and catch fish.

Hi Ryan and Karen, webinar was great, I'm stuck in cold Canberra ATM and couldn't dial in, you answered the Daintree questions very well and confirmed my suspicions about the sandy flats out the front, thanks.” Nick Philippa – Barra Basics Graduate

IS BARRA BASICS A GOOD FIT FOR ME?
We cater for both beginners and advanced students.
While the majority of our students will have caught some fish, I envisage a great deal of success with absolute beginners and here’s why… You will learn to think and behave like a top performer right from the start. You will avoid costly mistakes and be confident you are on the right track. We have also included a bonus on exactly what gear you need and how to use it.
"45cm caught yesterday. Lure was suggested colour and used the retrieval technique given. Just gotta work on the size now!!still good fun. The next went 57cm. So close to my first legal.” Barra Basics Graduate
Look… the program will only work if you work.
If you expect Barra Basics to magically solve all your problems and have fish jump right in your boat first trip, then please do not sign up. This is not the fishing equivalent to a get rich quick scheme.
Plus, we actually care that you implement the materials and live your life to the fullest, be it fishing or otherwise. We want to make the world a better place by getting people off their couches and into the environment by providing knowledge and thus, confidence.
If you do the work you will get results. We are challenging you to think and act differently. We have put a tremendous amount of time and energy into this program. You need to match that energy.
We have zero tolerance for tyre kickers and people with outrageous expectations. If you do the work, we believe you will find the program extremely valuable.
The primary difference between Barra Basics and other educational fishing products is that it's not a just a series of tips strung together.
Barra Basics is a well structured course held together by a simple framework. The framework shows you step by step where to go (Territory), what to use (Technique) at what tide (Time).
We call it the three T's and it is the exact strategy Ryan Moody has used to catch over 30,000 barra, more than 2000 of them over a metre. It works and is proven to work and as our students will attest, is applicable anywhere saltwater barra can be found.
Plus we have added a bonus module on freshwater impoundment barra!
It's simple. The more time you put in to Barra Basics, the more you will get out.
The first few modules help you develop a deep and strong understanding of the concepts, however time on the water investigating your local area is where you will really shine. This of course will be dependant on your existing level of skill and knowledge of your area.
The course videos take approximately 8 hours to watch and can be completed in one sitting.
And with lifetime access, you can revisit the course at your convenience as many times as you like down the track.
If you are after advanced sounder techniques and comparisons of the latest graphite rod technology this course is probably not a good fit as we don’t cover those topics.
However, our strategies will likely assist you leverage your time in the most effective way. The majority of our students have caught some barra but wanted to improve both consistency and fish size. One of our more advanced students Joshua MacCarthy had this to say...
I have only got through the first two modules so far cause pretty busy with work. But found them very useful, little things like using the bimini twist … also I found it interesting about the barra eyes and this made me change the depth of the lures I was running (caught eight barra that day!) . I'm looking forward to getting stuck into the next few modules. I found all of this stuff very helpful and liked some of the little tricks great, stuff that would have taken me years to pick up/figure out myself. Joshua MacCarthy
Barra Basics is an individual purchase program.
Upon registration you will receive one username and one password for use in the private member area. Your account log in will be linked to you and we have security systems in place to monitor log-ins. Evidence of password sharing will result in your account being disabled.
Barra Basics is about “fishing on the fish".
While most of the demonstrations involve the use of a vessel, catching barra is about understanding the movements and behaviour of the fish and using this to maximise catches.
Please understand however, it is not specifically about land based environments.
I’ll level with you. To become one of the 20% of fishers catching 80% of the fish, it’s hard.
That’s why I put together Barra Basics.
It’s everything I wish I had when I started my charter business. But you do have a couple of options available.
You could try and figure it out yourself. And you know what? With 40 hours per week of time and several years of trial and error, you could probably do it. Or you could take the short cut.
You see, I spent the last 30 years learning the ins and outs of barra behaviour, building a profitable and successful barra fishing charter business. And I’m share everything I know inside this course.
I don’t mean to brag, but I have caught over 2000 saltwater metre plus barra for clients, some 30,000 barra in total (actually I don’t even count anything under a metre). I practically live in the saltwater reaches of north Queensland chasing these fish and I have learned and thing or two about their patterns over the years. As John C. Maxwell said, “A wise person learns from his mistakes. A wiser one learns from others’ mistakes. But the wisest of all learns from other’s successes.”
You could hire a charter guide, fishing writer or other full time fishing experts to show you how.
But the truth is that would get really expensive. If you’re looking to hire someone like myself for instance, my daily rate for a four person charter is $1000 per day. It would take weeks to teach what is contained within this course. It took nearly two years to film and produce it. I don’t even know what I would charge to teach you one on one what is contained within this course. And at this stage anyway, it is not an option that is currently on offer.
Or you can follow the Barra Basics training course and do it yourself… at a fraction of the cost. It’s a no brainer really.
But don't take our word for it. Click here to check out what our students have to say.
